KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) - A new national record was set at 88th Malaysian Open Athletics Championships at National Sports Council Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil today. Noor Amirah Mohd Nafiah of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) jumped 13.90 metres to set a new national record in the women's triple jump. The 23 year-old lass erased the eight year-old record of 13.74 metres held by Ngew Siew Mei in the same championship in 2004. "I had high hopes for the Malaysian Open because I did well at ATM Athletics Championships last week," she told reporters here Saturday. At ATM Athletics Championships held in Sri Manjung, Perak, Noor Amirah managed a jump of 13.72 metres. "The feat will inspire me to continue to improve my performance," said Noor Amirah who received guidance from Russian coach Victor Sotnikov. -- BERNAMA
