Karate capai sasaran enam emas



SKUAD karate negara berjaya mencapai sasaran dengan meraih enam pingat emas pada temasya Sukan Universiti Asean (SUA) XIV yang berakhir di Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi semalam.

Semalam, tiga lagi pingat emas dan satu perak diraih atlet negara, sekali gus menjadikan kutipan keseluruhan tujuh emas, enam perak dan enam gangsa.

Pada saingan semalam, pingat emas pertama negara diperoleh menerusi P. Pavitern dalam acara kumite lelaki 80 kilogram (kg) ke atas.

Dia muncul juara selepas menewaskan atlet Singapura, Shah Khan Muhammad Khairuldin.

Mohd. Hatta Mahamut meraih pingat emas kedua negara menerusi acara kumite lelaki 75kg ke atas setelah menewaskan atlet Indonesia, Repael Meirizy.

V. Jayaseelan menyumbang emas ketiga negara menerusi acara kumite lelaki 80kg ke bawah selepas menewaskan atlet Thailand, Santi Ruema.

Sementara itu, pingat gangsa diperoleh menerusi C. Maalani dalam acara kumite terbuka wanita.

Pengurus pasukan karate negara, Chong Kong Yu berkata, dia berpuas hati dengan pencapaian anak buahnya yang berusaha gigih untuk meraih pingat untuk kontin- jen negara.

Menurutnya, atlet negara menunjukkan disiplin yang tinggi selain menampilkan semangat tinggi sepanjang kejohanan.

"Kesungguhan dan disiplin yang diberikan atlet negara menjadikan acara karate berjaya melepasi sasaran daripada segi kutipan pingat.

"Saya berasa amat bangga atlet karate negara berusaha gigih sepanjang kejohanan ini berlangsung.

"Apa sekalipun kejayaan ini semua di atas usaha semua pihak yang terlibat," kata Kong Yu kepada Kosmo! semalam.

Sebelum temasya SUA XXIV berlangsung, Persekutuan Karate Malaysia meletakkan sasaran enam pingat emas manakala Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (Masum) menyasarkan tiga pingat emas.
