KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Mohd Azlan Iskandar’s fine run in the Tournament of Champions came to end in the quarter-finals in New York on Tuesday.
The 13th-seeded Azlan went down 15-11, 6-11, 2-11 to second seed Karim Darwish of Egypt in 27 minutes.
It was still a good outing for Azlan as he managed to score an upset win over eighth seed Wael El Hindi of Egypt in the second round on Monday.
Darwish will face fourth seed Gregory Gaultier of France in the semi-finals.
The Frenchman came back from a set down to beat sixth seed David Palmer of Australia 6-11, 11-6, 11-3, 13-11 in 68 minutes.
The other semi-final is between 10th seed Nick Matthew of England and third seed Ramy Ashour of Egypt.
