Chong Wei-Simon buat perhitungan


CHONG WEI dipaksa bekerja keras sebelum menundukkan Nguyen Tien Minh semalam.


KETIKA pemain wanita negara gah meneruskan cabaran, barisan lelaki turut mengikut jejak langkah yang sama.

Diketuai pemain No. 1 dunia, Datuk Lee Chong Wei turut mara ke saingan suku akhir Terbuka Malaysia hari ini ialah beregu utama lelaki, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong serta pemain pelapis, Daren Liew.

Dua beregu campuran negara, Kien Keat-Ng Hui Lin dan Hoon Thien How-Chin Eei Hui juga turut mara ke pusingan suku akhir kejohanan Super Series pertama 2009 itu.

Pada aksi semalam, Chong Wei yang memburu kejuaraan kelima pada Terbuka Malaysia, menundukkan pemain Vietnam, Nguyen Tien Minh 21-9, 18-21, 21-7.

Daren yang berada pada ranking ke-140 dunia pula menewaskan pemain Taiwan, Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-14, 21-12.

Pada pusingan suku akhir hari ini, Chong Wei akan menentang pemain Indonesia, Simon Santoso manakala Daren akan berdepan lawan yang lebih sukar apabila dijadual menentang pemain handalan Denmark, Peter Gade.

Sementara itu, Kien Keat-Boon Heong ternyata tidak mempunyai masalah untuk menundukkan beregu senegara, Mohd. Razif Abd. Latif-Chan Peng Soon 21-17, 21-10.

Begitupun, juara edisi 2007 itu akan menentang pemain pilihan kedua dari Korea Selatan, Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae pada pusingan suku akhir.

Meskipun pernah menewaskan Jae Sung-Yong Dae pada perlawanan akhir Final Masters di Kota Kinabalu, Sabah bulan lepas, Boon Heong mengakui, dia harus meningkatkan lagi prestasi ketika menentang beregu Korea itu.

"Permainan kami hari ini (semalam) kurang baik dan kami harus lebih bersedia untuk menentang Jae Sung-Yong Dae.

"Kami akan cuba bermain yang terbaik dan harap dapat mengulangi kejayaan di Sabah," katanya.

Beregu campuran negara, Thien How-Eei Hui turut membuat kejutan apabila menewaskan beregu pilihan kelima, Robert Blair-Imogen Bankier 21-16 21-18.

Hari ini, Thien How-Eei Hui akan menentang pilihan kedua, Lee Yong Dae-Lee Hyo Jung dari Korea sementara Kien Keat-Hui Lin akan menentang beregu Denmark, Joachim Fischer Nielsen- Christinna Pedersen.
