CHONG Wei Feng and Wong Choong Hann saved the blushes for Malaysia by reaching the third round after Tan Chun Seang and Yeoh Kay Bin crashed out in the second round of the German Open yesterday.

The unseeded Wei Feng defeated Bjoern Joppein of Germany 21-16, 21-19 in 33 minutes but faced an uphill battle against top seed Bao Chunlai of China in a late third round match last night.

Choong Hann had an easy 21-10, 21-12 win over Christian Bosiger of Switzerland and played Anup Sridhar of India for a place in the quarter-finals last night.

Chun Seang let slip another chance to make an impression as he fell 21-18, 17-21, 21-15 to Rajiv Ouseph of England while Chetan Anand of India showed Kay Bin the exit with a 23-21, 21-12 win in the second round.

In the women's singles first round on Wednesday, Julia Wong was shocked 21-17, 22-20 by Megumi Taruno of Japan while Lydia Cheah suffered a 21-7, 21-14 defeat to Hwang Hye Youn of South Korea.
However, Malaysia fared better in the men's doubles as three pairs reached the second round.

Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong had a shaky start but recovered to beat Denmark's Jacob Chemnitz-Mikkel Larsen 18-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Razif Latif-Chan Peng Soon defeated Netherland's Ruud Bosch-Koen Ridder 21-16, 21-17 while former national pair Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen also secured a fine 22-20, 22-20 win over Han Sang Hoon-Hwang Ji Man of South Korea.

Hee Chun-Wee Kiong were involved in a late second round encounter against Germany's Michael Fuchs-Ingo Kindervater last night with the winners advancing to the quarter-finals.

Razif-Peng Soon played Kenichi Hayakawa-Kenta Kazuno while Teik Chai-Bin Shen met Kasper Hendriksen-Christian Skovgaard of Denmark yesterday.

In the mixed doubles, Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying defeated Dave Khodabux-Samantha Barning of the Netherlands 21-13, 18-21, 21-18 but faced a tough task against Olympic champions Lee Yong Dae-Lee Hyo Jung of South Korea last night.

Razif-Woon Khe Wei, who stunned second seeds Rasmus Andersen-Helle Nielsen of Denmark 21-16, 21-17, played South Koreans Ko Sung Hyun-Ha Jung Eun in the second round.

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
