Sportcheck: NSI looks to Germany

THE National Sports Institute is taking a proactive step in developing the country's sports by making Germany its "sports friend" owing to the country's position as a major sports power.

The institute's director-general Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz said cooperation with Germany had been in existence since its inception in 1983.

"We are planning to send more athletes to train in Germany.

"Their athletes can also come and train here," he told reporters after receiving RM32,000 worth of sports equipment from Germany's ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Gunter Gruber in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He thank the embassy for the donation and said that it would be used to train the country's back-up squads. -- Bernama
