Hockey: MHF dismisses speculation over next general manager

THE Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) is looking for a general manager to put its house in order, and this has put paid to whispers that a former international has been hired, and will start tomorrow..

"There is no truth to speculation that we have already hired a former international as MHF general manager. In fact, the only thing that was discussed in our recent meeting was to place an advertisement in the newspapers inviting suitable candidates to apply," said MHF secretary Hashim Yusoff.

It had been widely speculated that the former international, who represented Malaysia in the World Cup, has received the blessing of MHF top guns and was only waiting for an official letter from the National Sports Council.

"The MHF would like to invite interested candidates, including former internationals, who have a degree to apply for the position. An added advantage will be if the person has experience in management, planning and a financial background."

The last general manager of the MHF was K. Paramasivam, whose contract was not extended by the NSC after it expired at the end of 2007.
Meanwhile, the national hockey team have arrived in Dublin, Ireland, to get acclimatised for the Champions Challenge II on July 6-12.

Malaysia are in Group B with Austria, France and Russia. Chile, Ireland, Japan and Poland are in Group A.

Malaysia, ranked 16th in the world, have never won a gold medal outside the Sea Games, and will be looking to break the duck and finish tops in Ireland.

The gold medallists will be promoted to Champions Challenge I, and only then can Malaysia start their campaign to break into the top-10 bracket, as targeted by MHF president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

"Maybe his (Rajagobal) assessment and comments of the match was misconstrued by the media. There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
