Jaguh badminton tepati ramalan

SEPERTI diramal, pemain-pemain badminton elit negara mendominasi perlawanan akhir temasya sulung Mini Olimpik di Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara semalam.

Pemain perseorangan lelaki dan wanita No. 1 negara, Datuk Lee Chong Wei dan Wong Mew Choo menepati ramalan apabila menjuarai kategori masing-masing.

Chong Wei mudah menundukkan juara Seluruh England 2003, Muhd. Hafiz Hashim 21-17, 21-10 manakala Mew Choo menang 24-22, 21-17 ke atas pemain muda, Lydia Cheah.

"Mini Olimpik merupakan sebahagian daripada persiapan ke Kejohanan Dunia yang menjadi sasaran utama saya tahun ini," kata Chong Wei.

"Saya menjalani latihan yang cukup ketat sejak beberapa minggu lepas semata-mata untuk persediaan ke India. Begitupun, dengan penyertaan pada Mini Olimpik, saya kini sudah mula merasakan suasana kejohanan meskipun masih belum seratus peratus.

"Persiapan saya kini, sudah masuk 70 hingga 80 peratus tetapi saya harap, saya akan berada pada prestasi terbaik sebelum berlepas ke India."

Dalam pada itu, beregu wanita No. 1 dunia, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui turut menepati ramalan apabila mudah menewaskan Chong Sook Chin-Woon Khe Wei 21-16, 21-17.

Pei Tty turut menjuarai kategori beregu campuran bersama pasangannya, Mohd. Fairuzizuan Mohd. Tazari apabila menewaskan Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying 21-11, 21-18.

Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng menewaskan beregu veteran, Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah 16-21, 21-15, 24-22 pada perlawanan akhir beregu lelaki.

Sementara itu, pemanah pelapis negara, Fazli Hisham Fauzi membolot dua pingat emas dalam acara memanah.

Fazli, 19, berjaya mengetepikan dua pemanah bertaraf Olimpik setelah merangkul gelaran juara bagi acara recurve individu lelaki dan recurve berpasukan lelaki.

Dalam acara recurve individu lelaki, Fazli berjaya menggondol pingat emas setelah menumpaskan pemanah kebangsaan, Wan Mohd. Khalmizan Wan Abdul Aziz pada perlawanan akhir dengan mengutip 109 mata berbanding 99 mata yang dikutip oleh pesaingnya.

Bagi acara recurve individu wanita, pemanah kebangsaan, S. Anbarasi memungut pingat emas setelah berjaya menumpaskan Noor Aziera Taib dengan mengutip 106 mata berbanding 104 mata oleh pesaingnya.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
