KBS Cadang Abadikan Nama Nicol Di Gelanggang Utama Skuasy


KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Julai (Bernama) -- Kementerian Belia dan Sukan bercadang untuk mengabadikan nama pemain wanita nombor satu dunia, Datuk Nicol Ann David pada gelanggang utama Pusat Skuasy Nasional Bukit Jalil di sini.

Menteri Belia dan Sukan Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek akan mengemukakan kertas cadangan kepada Kabinet untuk menamakan gelanggang utama di pusat skuasy itu dengan nama Nicol David sebagai tanda penghormatan terhadap ratu skuasy itu.

"Perkara seperti ini ada dilakukan di negara-negara lain. Oleh kerana sekarang ini di negara kita ada peraturan yang tidak membenarkan untuk menamakan sesuatu bangunan dengan nama orang yang masih hidup dan sebab itu kita akan buat kertas cadangan kepada kabinet supaya perkara ini dikecualikan," katanya di sini Rabu.

Ahmad Shabery berkata cadangan itu tidak keterlaluan memandangkan Nicol merupakan atlet contoh yang mampu mencapai tahap tertinggi dalam acara sukan khususnya di peringkat antarabangsa.

Katanya beliau telah memaklumkan cadangan itu kepada Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak ketika menghadiri Majlis Makan Malam dan Pelancaran Yayasan Kebajikan Atlet Kebangsaan (Yakeb) pada Sabtu lepas.

"Dalam perbincangan singkat itu, Perdana Menteri telah menunjukkan reaksi positif terhadap cadangan itu," katanya.

Ahmad Shabery hari ini meluangkan masa menyaksikan atlet-atlet skuasy negara bersaing pada pusingan awal Kejohanan Skuasy Terbuka Malaysia 2009 di Pusat Skuasy Nasional Bukit Jalil.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badaw i said the government always gives emphasis on cultivating a strong sporting culture in achieving excellence at the international level. Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
