'Tiada jaminan buat Chong Wei'

BERSTATUS pemain badminton nombor satu negara dan dunia ketika ini, tidak mungkin Lee Chong Wei sanggup diketepikan daripada perancangan mengejar gemilang Sukan Olimpik menerusi program 'Road to London 2012.'

Namun pada masa sama, kemungkinan tersisih itu ada � jika Chong Wei tidak mampu mengekalkan tahap prestasi selaku sandaran utama dalam tempoh hampir tiga tahun sebelum temasya terulung itu.

"Apa sahaja boleh berlaku dalam tempoh tiga tahun akan datang. Kerana itu, atlit sudah terpilih dalam program 'Road to London 2012' perlu sentiasa memastikan mereka berada di tahap terbaik, termasuk Chong Wei," kata Pemangku Ketua Pengarah Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Jalil Abdullah, semalam.

Kemungkinan itu terserlah ekoran hakikat ditimbulkan betapa Chong Wei � di sebalik kekerapan menang beberapa gelaran Siri Super � masih belum mampu membawa pulang mahkota utama seperti daripada Kejohanan Dunia, Olimpik dan Seluruh England.

Selain itu, wujud juga kebimbangan betapa harapan yang terlalu disandarkan kepadanya mungkin tambah jadi beban ketika Chong Wei akan berusia 30 tahun � setahun lebih tua daripada jaguh China, Lin Dan � apabila temasya Olimpik berikutnya di London nanti.

Menurut Jalil, Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, turut bersetuju betapa pendekatan terlalu mengharapkan hanya seorang atlit ketika tempoh sasaran masih jauh, bukanlah yang terbaik.

"Ketika ini, senarai atlit dalam program itu bukan muktamad. Kita sentiasa pantau prestasi atlit, mana yang berpotensi akan kita masukkan dan mana merosot, kita akan gugurkan.

"Pada masa sama, MSN juga sudah dan akan terus menyokong penghantaran atlit pelapis, termasuk pemain muda berpotensi untuk badminton, dengan harapan akan ada yang ketara meningkat dalam baki tempoh sebelum 2012.

"Ia sekali gus akan memberi kita kelompok lebih besar pemain untuk disandarkan harapan," katanya.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
