Cadangan 'Pusat Skuasy Nicol David'

NAMA atlit negara yang banyak menabur jasa dan mengharumkan nama negara di pentas antarabangsa, bakal diabadikan di gelanggang sukan diceburi mereka, seandainya cadangan Kementerian Belia dan Sukan diterima Kabinet.

Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, berkata kertas cadangan bagi menamakan beberapa gelanggang sukan itu dengan nama tokoh sukan yang masih hidup dan banyak menabur jasa, sudah disiapkan dan ia akan diusulkan dalam masa seminggu dua lagi.

"Sebelum ini ada peraturan yang mana kita tidak boleh menamakan bangunan atau tempat tertentu dengan mana mereka yang masih hidup...tetapi perkara itu akan diusulkan kepada Kabinet bagi mendapatkan pandangan dan kebenaran," katanya di Marang, semalam.

Ahmad Shabery berkata, menamakan fasiliti sukan dengan nama atlit yang banyak menyumbang jasa dan mengharumkan nama negara bukan sesuatu yang baru kerana sudah ada beberapa negara di dunia yang melaksanakannya.

Beliau berkata, dalam konteks Malaysia, buat permulaan kementerian bercadangan untuk menamakan gelanggang utama di Pusat Skuasy Nasional di Bukit Jalil dengan nama Nicol David kerana pencapaian cemerlangnya dalam mengungguli kejohanan Terbuka Dunia bagi kali keempat.

Katanya, langkah itu bukan saja akan menyuntik lebih semangat malah dianggap lebih bermakna kerana nama mereka diabadikan dalam arena sukan yang mereka wakili.

"Saya juga memaklumkan kepada Nicol mengenai perkara ini dan sudah memaklumkan kepada Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak dan beliau (Perdana Menteri) memberi maklum balas yang cukup positif...cuma daripada segi formalitinya persetujuan Kabinet sangat diperlukan bagi merealisasikan perkara itu," katanya.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
