Remaja Malaysia Melangkah Ke Pusingan Ketiga Badminton Remaja Dunia


ALOR SETAR, 29 Okt (Bernama) -- Pemain perseorangan utama negara Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin melangkah ke pusingan ketiga selepas mudah menundukkan Ashwant Gobinathan dari Australia 21-5,21-10 pada kejohanan Badminton Remaja Dunia yang sedang berlangsung di Stadium Tertutup Sultan Abdul Halim di sini.

Iskandar yang juga pilihan kedua kejohanan berkata dia sudah melupakan kekecewaan tidak dapat beraksi dalam final acara berpasukan kerana keracunan makanan dan mahu menumpukan perhatian untuk perlawanan berikutnya.

"Saya kini mahu lebih fokus kerana setiap perlawanan adalah penting jika mahu muncul juara dan berharap dapat menebus kekecewaan dalam acara berpasukan dengan meraih pingat emas bagi acara perseorangan ini," katanya di sini selepas perlawanan.

Sementara itu, tiga lagi perseorangan lelaki negara turut melayakkan diri ke pusingan ketiga selepas menewaskan lawan masing-masing.

Muhammad Syawal Mohd Ismail yang juga pilihan 3/4 mendapat kemenangan percuma apabila lawannya dari Iraq, Dulaimi Muhammad Othman tidak muncul.

Misbun Ramdan Mohammed Misbun pula yang turun selaku pilihan 5/8 mudah menundukkan Hiroki Takeuchi dari Jepun dengan straight set 21-12 dan 21-14 manakala Zulfadli Zulkifli pula meranapkan impian pemain Sri Lanka Nuwan Hettaiarachchi menerusi kemenangan 21-7 dan 21-16.

Sementara itu, dua pemain perempuan turut melangkah ke pusingan ketiga setelah menewaskan lawan masing-masing.

Sonia Cheah Su Ya yang melakukan kejutan apabila mengalahkan pemain utama Taiwan semalam Chen Chi Ya, meneruskan aksi konsisten dengan kemenangan straight set 21-11, 21-15 ke atas Sarah Kong dari Kanada.

Tee Jing Lee pula tidak perlu memerah tenaga apabila mendapat kemenangan percuma setelah lawannya dari Kemboja Sovanpitch Sreynich Youth tidak muncul di gelanggang.

Bagaimanapun, Li Lian Yang gagal mengikut rentak cemerlang rakan sepasukannya apabila ditunjukkan jalan keluar oleh Chia Chien Lu dari Taiwan dengan kekalahan 16-21,25-23, 21-18.

Sementara itu, dua pasangan beregu perempuan, Lai Pei Jing-Ng Hui Ern dan Shevon Jemie Lai-Ng Boon Hui juga mara selepas beraksi cemerlang pada pusingan kedua.

Pei Jing-Hui Ern menundukkan gandingan Singapura Tan Wei Han-Toh Siew Fen dengan straight set 21-12, 21-6 manakala Shevon-Boon Hui pula menyingkirkan kombinasi Austria-Perancis Alexandra Methis-Marie Mounoury juga dengan straight set 21-17-21-13.

Dua lagi beregu lelaki negara yang juga pilihan 3/4, Chooi Kah Ming-Ow Yao Han mudah menewaskan gandingan Macau Lam Chee Leong-Lei Meng Fai 21-6, 21-11.

Satu lagi wakil negara, Goh Jian Hao-Phang Zhen Lin pula mengecewakan pasangan Jepun, Kento Momota-Naoto Otaki dengan 21-15, 21-15.

Perlawanan pusingan ketiga perseorangan lelaki dan perempuan serta beregu campuran akan berlangsung pada pukul enam petang ini dengan Malaysia mempunyai wakil dalam setiap acara tersebut.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
