KUALA LUMPUR: Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Wong Mew Choo are the big guns who will be missing from action in the 2009 National Grand Prix Finals, which will be held at the Bandaraya Stadium in Johor Baru from Feb 4-7.
Malaysian Open champions Kien Keat-Boon Heong failed to make the cut after only competing in one of the two legs in the local circuit last year.
In their absence, two top back-up pairs – Chan Peng Soon-Lim Khim Wah and Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong – will be out to pull the rug from under three senior combinations – Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah and Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng.
In the absence of Mew Choo, who also failed to make a regular appearance in the local circuit last year, Lydia Cheah is favoured to bag the women’s singles title for a second consecutive time.
In the men’s singles, no-one will bet on Lee Chong Wei not winning the national title for the eighth time.
