Sukan Perpaduan Islam batal

Setiausaha Kehormat MOM, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi berkata, kegagalan tuan rumah Iran menunjukkan kesungguhan dalam penganjuran yang dijadualkan berlangsung pada 9 hingga 25 April ini di tiga bandar raya iaitu Teheran, Esfahan dan Mashhad mendorong Persekutuan Sukan Perpaduan Islam (ISSF) membatalkannya.

ā€œSaya mendapat surat daripada ISSF minggu lalu memaklumkan Sukan Perpaduan Islam dibatalkan. Perkara ini sudah dijangka kerana Iran tidak mengambil langkah persediaan walaupun waktu kejohanan semakin hampir.


ā€œKalau diikutkan, Sukan Perpaduan Islam ini dianjurkan Iran tahun lalu, tapi mereka mahu menunda kejohanan itu ke tahun ini. Tapi tahun ini, mereka tak tunjuk kesungguhan, tak tunjuk minat menganjurkannya. Jika dianjurkan pada saat akhir, pasti banyak negara tidak bersedia,ā€ katanya yang dihubungi semalam.

Iran sebelum ini dilaporkan terpaksa menunda Sukan Perpaduan Islam, Oktober tahun lalu ke April tahun ini berikutan kebimbangan menularnya wabak selsema babi atau Influenza A (H1N1) selain keadaan politik tidak menentu di negara berkenaan.
Sukan Perpaduan Islam yang sepatutnya masuk tahun kedua selepas kali pertama diadakan di Arab Saudi pada 2005 itu mengikut perancangan menjadi antara gelanggang buat atlit negara menguji kemampuan di peringkat antarabangsa bagi persediaan ke temasya sukan lebih besar iaitu Sukan Komanwel New Delhi, India pada Oktober dan Sukan Asia Guangzhou, China, November ini.

Namun, Kok Chi menafikan kegagalan menyertai Sukan Perpaduan Islam itu akan menjejaskan persiapan ke Sukan Komanwel dan Asia.
