Chong Wei sahut cabaran

KUALA LUMPUR - Ada nada keyakinan diungkapkan oleh pemain perseorangan lelaki No.1 dunia, Datuk Lee Chong Wei apabila ditanya mengenai peluang Malaysia memenangi Piala Thomas di laman sendiri Mei ini.


Pemain yang berasal dari Pulau Pinang itu berjanji akan memberi persembahan terbaik dan menyahut cabaran Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek yang mahu Malaysia memenangi Piala Thomas.
Menurutnya, bukan mustahil untuk skuad badminton negara muncul juara walaupun atas kertas Malaysia tidak memiliki gandingan mantap berbanding China, Indonesia dan Denmark.


"Ini bukan satu tekanan tetapi cabaran yang harus dipikul oleh semua pemain, saya yakin semangat pemain akan luar biasa untuk menjuarai Piala Thomas, lebih-lebih lagi beraksi di gelanggang sendiri," katanya ketika ditemui media di Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara, semalam.


Kali terakhir Malaysia menjuarai Piala Thomas ialah pada tahun 1992 ketika menjadi tuan rumah.
Jelasnya, walaupun Malaysia masih belum mempunyai gandingan mantap tetapi pemain yang bakal diturunkan sudah pasti akan memberi persembahan 100 peratus.

"Kami tidak boleh kalah dalam saingan Piala Thomas nanti dan berjanji akan melakukan yang terbaik untuk menyahut cabaran yang diberikan Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
"Saya yakin dengan kemampuan pemain lain seperti Hafiz Hashim, pasangan beregu Koo Kien Kiat-Tan Boon Heong dan Fairuzizuan Tazari-Zakry Latiff," kata Chong Wei.

Pemain yang memenangi Terbuka Malaysia, Januari lalu juga berjanji akan memberi persembahan terbaik dalam saingan Seluruh England, Mac ini walaupun baru menjalani latihan selama seminggu selepas berehat selama dua minggu bagi menyambut Tahun Baru Cina.

"Setakat ini persiapan saya berjalan lancar dan saya mahu mengekalkan prestasi saya sehingga turun beraksi di Seluruh England.

"Saya sedar lawan yang bakal menanti bukan calang-calang pemain dan saya tidak mahu terlalu fokus kepada mencipta nama dengan muncul juara Seluruh England yang ke-100 tahun tetapi memberi persembahan terbaik untuk diri saya sendiri," katanya.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
