Corak latihan sudah ketinggalan

PENGARAH strategi perlumbaan, William Walker mengakui corak lati- han yang digunakan skuad elit lumba basikal negara sudah ketinggalan zaman, lapor NORZASRUDIN MOHAMED NOR.

Lantaran itu, adalah mustahil untuk mereka mencapai keputusan yang baik pada Kejohanan Lumba Basikal Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2010 pada 1 hingga 7 Mac depan.

Walker, 24, yang mula membimbing skuad negara sejak 10 Februari lalu berkata, beliau memerlukan sekurang-kurangnya setahun untuk menjadikan skuad negara lebih kompetitif.

Bagaimanapun, bekas juara dunia bawah 23 tahun itu tetap yakin dengan sasaran untuk menamatkan saingan di tempat ke-12 terbaik pada perlumbaan berstatus Hors yang memasuki edisi ke-15 ini.

"Pelumba negara ada potensi tetapi corak latihan yang digunakan sebelum ini sudah jauh ketinggalan.
"Bagi saya, tempoh satu hingga dua tahun diperlukan untuk membimbing skuad ini dan saya yakin mereka mampu menjadi sebuah pasukan yang hebat, setanding pelumba trek negara," kata Walker ke- pada pemberita di Ipoh, Ahad lalu.


Menurut pelumba kelahiran Australia ini, selain pengalaman dan ke- kuatan, strategi juga amat penting dalam sesuatu perlumbaan besar.

Oleh sebab itu, beliau akan menggunakan strategi yang sesuai untuk mencapai sasaran menduduki tempat ke-12 terbaik.

Katanya, sepanjang dua minggu membimbing skuad negara, beliau sudah mengenal pasti kemampuan pelumba yang dianggap berguna pada perlumbaan itu.

"Mengenal pasti kemampuan pelumba cukup penting kerana saya tidak mahu mereka memikul tugas yang tidak mampu dilakukan.
"Contohnya, Akmal Amrun mempunyai kekuatan untuk memecut di laluan landai manakala Suhardi Hassan akan mengetuai barisan pelumba di laluan mendaki," katanya.

Pada masa yang sama, Walker berkata, jika beliau terus membimbing skuad ini, mereka akan menjadi sebuah pasukan yang lebih kompeti- tif pada edisi tahun depan.

Sasaran untuk menduduki kelompok 10 terbaik pada LTdL 2011 bukan lagi mustahil sekiranya pelumba mengikuti program latihan yang dirancang ketua jurulatih, John Beasley.

Menurutnya, beliau akan memilih beberapa pelumba yang berpotensi untuk berlatih di Australia sebelum menyertai beberapa kejohanan besar di Eropah.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
