KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- As the Malaysian Lotus Racing Team head to Australia for their second F1 race this weekend, test driver Fairuz Fauzy will have additional duties in Melbourne, following his appointment as Sepang International Circuit's (SIC) Ambassador.

SIC Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali said SIC's decision to appoint Fairuz was not merely driven by the fact that he is the third driver for Lotus Racing Team but more so for his overall achievement in motorsport, his commitment and dedication in pursuance of his dreams to become a Formula One driver over the last 20 years.

"I am privileged and proud to announce that Fairuz Fauzy has agreed to become our ambassador. Not only that he would be working with us to promote the upcoming 2010 Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix Race but other big areas as well to promote motorsports development and road safety.

"Fairuz's story is truly inspirational... like the story of him breaking Ayrton Senna's Record. Few people realised it. But these are achievements by a Malaysian that we should share with other Malaysians so that people can draw inspiration from such success stories," he said in a statement issued by SIC.

Fairuz in the same statement said he was honoured to be entrusted with the trust and confidence to represent SIC at the global stage and to speak on behalf of the circuit in promoting motorsports and spreading the message of loving motorsports and Formula One.

"I am privileged to be in Formula One with Lotus Racing and this is will provide me a global stage especially through the Formula One platform to promote Malaysia. Its an honour for me to represent SIC on the global stage," he said.

Following yesterday's ruling, Ramanathan, 75, a former teacher, walked out a free man as he had served 10 months in Kajang Prison. Convicts get one-third remission for good behaviour while in prison. However, he will lose his pension. Hishamudin, who sat with Datuk Abdul Wahab Patail and Datuk Linton Albert, said the court found no merit to overturn the conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud submitted that then High Court judge Tan Sri Abdull Hamid E...
