KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- Local shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi created history in the annals of Malaysian shooting history by winning a silver medal in World Cup Shooting championships in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday.
With the win, Nur Suryani, 27, becomes the first Malaysian shooter to win a medal of any colour at a World Cup after her feat in the women's 10m Air Rifle event.
Her final effort of 103.8 points in the final round saw her finish the championship with 499.8 total points while gold medal winner Katerina Emmons from the Czech Republic gunned down 104.1 points today to take the gold with 503.1 overall points.
The win was a major boost to the country's shooting fraternity, especially for the Perak-born Armed Forces shooter, since she had failed to win a gold in the Laos SEA Games last year.

National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) executive secretary Major Jasni Shaari said the win was a major achievement in the history of Malaysian sports, especially shooting.
"It shows that we have the potential to compete against the best shooters in the world. I also hope this win will be the beginning of better things to come for the sport of shooting and help spur the sport to greater heights," he told Bernama when contacted.
Jasni said Nur Suryani and nine other shooters are expected to return on Sunday.
