Sports Scientists To Be Stationed In Melbourne To Support Cyclists

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Sports scientists from the high performance support team will be stationed in Melbourne, Australia next month to support the 12 national track cyclists.

National Sports Institute (NSI) director-general Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz said the team led by bio-mechanic Mick Flyjer would be assisted by an analyst, psychologist, food technologist and masseur.

"We had sent scientists to Melbourne before but only when needed like during championships. The National Sports Council will also send the road cycling team to Melbourne," he told Bernama here Monday.

He said support from sports science was needed as cycling was one of Malaysia's best hope for a gold medal at London 2012 Olympics.

The Melbourne-based cyclists are Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Josiah Ng, Mohd Rizal Tisin, Muhammad Edrus Md Yunos, Junaidi Mohamad Nasir, Mohamad Hafiz Mohamed Sufian, Muhammad Syamil Bahrum, Mohd Harrif Saleh, Amir Mustafa Rusli, Mohammad Akmal Amrun, Muhammad Adiq Husainie Othman and Fatehah Mustapa.

Dr Ramlan said Malaysia would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Leipzig, Germany so that our athletes could continue to train over there.

Athletes who had trained in Germany include hurdler Noraseela Khalid, pole vaulter Roslinda Samsu and high jumper Lee Hup Wei.

Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Bath, England last month to use its facilities as a high performance training centre in Europe.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
