BAM cari jawapan atasi masalah pemain pelapis

JIKA sebelum ini timbul persoalan mengenai masalah pemain pelapis badminton yang kurang menonjol di pentas antarabangsa, ia mungkin akan terjawab dalam masa terdekat.
Perkara tersebut disuarakan sendiri oleh Pengurus Besar Persatuan Badminton Malay- sia (BAM), Kenny Goh yang menjelaskan bahawa ia akan dibentangkan selepas mesyuarat post-mortem berikutan kegagalan skuad negara menjulang Piala Thomas baru- baru ini.

Sebelum ini, banyak pihak telah memper- soalkan mengenai kelemahan BAM melaksa- nakan program peringkat akar umbi dalam usaha melahirkan pemain pelapis yang berbakat untuk diketengahkan pada saingan peringkat antarabangsa termasuklah Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
"Buat masa ini, kami sedang meneliti dan mengenal pasti punca sebenar masalah yang dibangkitkan ini kerana post-mortem masih lagi dijalankan.

"Tidak dinafikan, banyak pihak ketika ini tertanya-tanya mengapa pemain pelapis yang ada gagal menyerlah apabila dinaikkan selaku pemain senior kerana ada di antara mereka pernah muncul juara peringkat remaja dunia.

"Apa yang dapat kita lakukan ketika ini ada- lah menunggu laporan post-mortem tersebut," jelas Kenny pada sesi sidang media Grand Final Sirkit Remaja Kebangsaan 100Plus semalam.

Sementara itu, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pertandingan BAM, Datuk Ir. Mohamad Al- Amin Abdul Majid berkata, Malaysia sebenar- nya telah melahirkan ramai pemain pelapis yang menyinar antaranya Jeremy Gan, Chan Choong Ming, Tan Boon Heong dan Koo Kien Kiat.

"Saya melihat kita tidak menghadapi masalah dalam melahirkan pemain-pemain beregu yang hebat, namun sesuatu yang perlu difikirkan oleh pihak persatuan adalah mengenai kekurangan pemain perseorangan.
"Ini penting agar kita dapat mencari pengganti yang setaraf dengan jaguh negara, Datuk Lee Chong Wei kerana dia sudah pastinya akan bersara juga suatu hari nanti."
