17 Atlet Paralimpik Tempah Tiket Ke Sukan Para Asia Di Guangzhou

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Jun (Bernama) -- Seramai 17 atlet paralimpik kebangsaan telah menempah tiket untuk beraksi di Temasya Sukan Para Asia yang akan berlangsung di Guangzhou, China, dari 12 hingga 19 Dis.

Pengarah cawangan paralimpik Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) Mohd Safrushahar Yusoff berkata jumlah itu dijangka bertambah selepas semua kejohanan kelayakan bagi pemilihan ke Guangzhou selesai September ini.

"Matlamat Cawangan Paralimpik ialah untuk meningkatkan kedudukan atlet dalam senarai ranking dunia bagi melayakkan diri ke kejohanan Dunia mengikut sukan pada tahun 2010 dan 2011 seterusnya untuk ke Sukan Para Asia hujung tahun ini," katanya kepada Bernama Isnin.

Beliau berkata prestasi di Sukan Para Asia juga akan menentukan kelayakan atlet untuk beraksi di Temasya Paralimpik Dunia di London pada 2012, selepas berakhirnya Sukan Olimpik pada tahun itu.

Mohd Safrushahar berkata 11 atlet powerlifting yang telah melepasi kelayakan akan beraksi ke Kejohanan Majlis Paralimpik Antarabangsa dalam acara itu bertempat di Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, pada 25 hingga 31 Julai nanti.

"Bagi sukan olahraga, enam atlet telah berjaya melepasi MQS. Pihak kita akan menghantar mereka untuk mewakili Malaysia ke Kejohanan Olahraga IPC Dunia di New Zealand Januari tahun hadapan," katanya.

Sebagai persiapan ke Sukan Para Asia, seramai 64 atlet elit paralimpik negara khususnya daripada acara renang, olahraga, powerlifting dan memanah kini giat menjalani latihan sepenuh masa di MSN.

Sementara itu, atlet bagi acara badminton dan tenpin boling berlatih secara separuh masa di MSN. Kebanyakan mereka menjalani latihan di tempat masing-masing.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Indonesia Choose Komodo Dragon As SEA Games Mascot

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Host for the 26th SEA Games, Indonesia has chosen the Komodo dragon as mascot for the 2011 Games which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from Nov 11 to 25. The Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee (Inasoc), was qouted by Jakarta Post as saying that a pair of Komodo dragons, a male (Modo) and a female (Modi), were chosen in recognition of the Republic's conservation efforts to protect the dwindling number of the rare lizard. Modo and Modi were unveiled last night at a function in Jakarta, to mark the 200-day countdown before the games open on Nov 11 in Palembang. The Komodo dragons, the largest lizard in the world, only live on the Indonesian islands of Komodo in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
