KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- Eighteen countries will take part in the 14th Malaysian Open International Woodball Championship at Taman Metropolitan Batu in Jalan Ipoh, here from July 28 to Aug 2.
Malaysian Woodball Association president Thomas Kok said foreign teams such as Russia, Hong Kong, India, Iran, South Korea and Mongolia would be arriving earlier to get used to the grass pitch and weather.
"A total of 250 people have confirmed and each country will send about 15 participants for the open and senior categories each," he told Bernama here, on Monday.
Woodball is similar to golf and played on grass over 12 fairways and a wooden mallet is used to hit the ball, which is also made of wood. The player wins the game by taking the fewest number of strokes within the whole boundary.
The prizes for the open group and senior categories are RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.
