KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- Infrastructure and facilities at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil will be upgraded inline with the Ministry of Youth and Sports aspirations to turn sports into a viable industry.
Deputy minister of Youth and Sports Gan Ping Sieu said sports does not only provide an impetus to athletes, but also generates revenue to those who are involved directly or indirectly.
"Sports has become an industry that provides job opportunities as well as offer a prospective future for athletes who can excel on the world stage," he told reporters after visiting the National Sports Council (NSC) here on Tuesday.
He said NSC was well equipped with infrastructure and facilities but additional facilities would be considered based on demands and need, from time to time.
Gan who was recently appointed to the ministry said training programmes at the grassroots level would also be enhanced to ensure that the country would have a constant supply of athletes to replace the ageing ones.
