KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The Inter-Varsity Boat Race 2010, scheduled at the Putrajaya Water Sports Complex in October, is expected to become a platform to identify potential rowers to represent the country said Malaysian Rowing Association (Perdama) president Abdul Malik Abdul Ghani.
Abdul Malik said potential rowers would be identified and groomed to lead the country's challenge in the 2011 SEA Games to be hosted by Indonesia.
"I hope those (rowers) who compete in the race will give their best so as not to miss out on a chance to represent the country," he told Bernama here Monday.
Abdul Malik said the national team's training camp would start in December.
"Our target for the SEA Games to win a medal of any colour. I hope our efforts to unearth talented rowers will be achieved through the event," he said.
Rowing events were not contested in the Laos SEA Games last year while Malaysia failed to win any medals at the 2007 Korat SEA Games in Thailand.
