JOHOR BAHARU, June 29 (Bernama)-- The Johor Judo Association is to host the Asean Invitational Judo Championship at the Danga City Mall here from Aug 4-8.
Participants from all Asean countries are expected to take part in the four-day meet which will feature judokas at both junior and senior level.
According to Johor Judo Association president, Salikon Sarpin, an international level competition here would give the sport a major boost.
"Already Johor is a leading state where judo is concerned after our success in the recent Sukma Games where we won three gold medals, one behind Terengganu.
"And we have two foreign coaches based in the state, one Japanese and one Mongolian, which helped to raise the standard of the sport," said Salikon.
The two day competition, according to Salikon, will give the Malaysian judokas the chance to compete against the best in Asean.
"I believe some of the Asean judokas are also headed for the Youth Olympics in Singapore a week after our competition here and they would want to use the Asean meet as a final warm-up," added Salikon.
