COMMENT: Selfish candidates stay out of FAM!

THOSE with self interests should stay out of the FA of Malaysia (FAM).
It will be bad for local football if agenda-motivated candidates are elected to helm the association.

So, delegates from the 19 affiliates must cast their votes wisely in the July 31 Congress if they hope for a better future for football.

In the past, we have seen one-hit wonder candidates make ing their way into FAM by making empty promises, and then And as a result, they failing ed to contribute anything of significance.

We (the public) have had enough of them. What we want are is genuine leaders who can take our football to another level, so it’s needless to say that only those with a good track records should hold positions in FAM.

And those who are elected to for the new term under the leadership of Sultan Ahmad Shah, must work hard to improve the quality of football.

What our football needs is re-branding and the first thing to do is to get ting more sponsors into the sport. FAM must should consider having more than one title sponsor for the M-League.

Currently, state FAs are struggling to keep themselves from falling apart hold their office together while some can’t even afford to pay their players’ monthly salaries due to on a regular basis because of a fund shortage of funds.

Most state teams are suffering as they cannot attract fans to their respective stadiums. Gate collections at stadiums have nose-dived decreased over the past two years, partly due to the absence of foreign players.

Only the bigger teams have are enjoying a huge following while the smaller ones teams can hardly attract 50 paying fans to watch their home matches.

The elected leaders must also take positive steps towards making our local league more prestigious, and for starters, FAM should The association must should consider allowing foreign players back into the league to attract the fans.

Over the years, the association has been guilty of making ad hoc decisions over matters concerning the league and the national team.

M-League regulations are changed every season while match fixtures are juggled ever so often.

Let’s hope the new FAM executive committee will have a better direction.

There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
