Pemain hebat dunia sah beraksi


YEN YEN (tiga dari kanan) hadir pada majlis perasmian Kejohanan Tenis Terbuka Malaysia 2010 di Kuala Lumpur semalam.


KEJOHANAN Tenis Terbuka Malaysia 2010 yang akan menyingkap tirainya September depan pasti menjadi tumpuan apabila pemain No. 5 dunia, Robin Soderling mengesahkan akan menyertai kejohanan tersebut.

Selain Soderling, juara bertahan, Nikolay Davydenko turut kembali untuk mempertahankan gelaran buat kali kedua menjelang kejohanan siri ke-250 dalam Jelajah Persatuan Pemain Tenis Profesional (ATP) itu.
Ia dijadualkan berlangsung pada 25 September hingga 3 Oktober di Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

Davydenko yang menghuni ranking keenam dunia turut disertai tujuh lagi pemain terkemuka dunia iaitu Tomas Berdych (8), David Ferrer (12), Mikhail Youzhny (14) dan Nicolas Alma- gro (18).
Turut beraksi ialah Marcos Bagh- datis (25), bekas juara Wimbledon, Lleyton Hewitt (30) dan pemain terkemuka Asia, Rendy Lu (41).

Pengarah kejohanan, Nick Freyer memberitahu, kejohanan pada kali ini akan menampilkan format yang sama iaitu 28 undian pemain dalam acara perseorangan dan 16 pasukan dalam acara beregu.
"Seramai 32 pemain akan beraksi pada pusingan kelayakan untuk merebut empat tempat dalam sesi kelayakan. Dua slot untuk kelayakan wild card dalam acara perseorangan akan diperuntukkan untuk pemain tempatan.

"Pemain tempatan turut diberi keistimewaan untuk bergandingan dengan salah seorang daripada pemain pilihan bagi mendapatkan peluang untuk beraksi dalam acara beregu (wild card)."
Katanya lagi, kini seramai sembilan pemain telah mengesahkan penyertaan mereka, manakala 10 lagi pemain akan diumumkan tidak lama lagi selain empat slot daripada sesi kelayakan, tiga slot untuk wild card dan dua lagi slot tambahan.
Kejohanan yang dianjurkan oleh Persatuan Tenis Malaysia (LTAM) itu menawarkan hadiah wang tunai bernilai AS$947,750 (RM3 juta).

Hadir pada sidang media serta melancarkan kejohanan itu semalam ialah Menteri Pelancongan, Datuk Ng Yen Yen.

Dalam pada itu, Freyer turut memberitahu, tiket-tiket akan mula dijual dalam masa enam hingga tujuh minggu dari sekarang selain pengunjung boleh melayari laman web www.MalaysiaOpen Tennis.com untuk maklumat lanjut.

Sementara itu, Presiden LTAM, Datuk Abdul Razak Latiff berkata, selain pemain berpengalaman, Si Yuw Ming, dua lagi pemain negara, Nazim Khan dan Aris Ilias mungkin akan turut serta dalam kejohanan berprestij itu.

Dalam pada itu beliau turut memberitahu, lapan pemain negara akan berlepas ke Sepanyol hari ini bagi menjalani latihan selama lapan minggu di sana.

"Mereka akan dilatih oleh bekas pemain tenis profesional, Albert Portas untuk memperbaiki teknik permainan mereka.

"Bukan mahu tersenarai dalam ranking dunia tetapi sekurang-kurangnya mereka boleh bermain dengan baik dan mengutip pengalaman yang secukupnya," katanya.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
