CWG Athletes To Be Briefed Of Health Precautions, Procedures


KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Institute (ISN) will brief all Malaysian athletes for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, on health procedures and precautions.

ISN director-general Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz said among information provided are those involving ways to avoid and prevent cough and diarrhea.

"The two-day briefing is to ensure athletes know what to do and what not to do when participating in the games," he told Bernama here Monday.

Dr Ramlan when commenting on concerns raised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) honorary secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi on the widespread of dengue in India, said members of the Malaysian contingent to the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi from Oct 3 to 14, would be provided with anti-dengue pills.

The OCM had received a reminder from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Medical Adviser Tan Sri Dr M Jegathesan who is also the OCM deputy president, on Friday.

In India, 140 dengue cases were reported with New Delhi accounting for 123 cases.

Dr Ramlan said ISN would also send a medical team with the Malaysian contingent to monitor the situation.

The Malaysian contingent to New Delhi will comprise of 203 athletes and 99 officials who will compete in 14 of the 17 sports hosted by India.

Malaysian athletes will compete in aquatics, weightlifting, badminton, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, archery, shooting, athletics, table tennis, squash, wrestling, rugby (7s) and three paralympic sports.

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
