KBS percepat permohonan bina velodrom antarabangsa

PUTRAJAYA - Pembinaan velodrom antarabangsa mengikut spefikasi terkini bakal menjadi agenda penting buat Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (KBS) bagi memastikan Malaysia mampu menjadi tuan rumah kejohanan utama dunia.

Menurut menterinya, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, segala usaha perlu dilakukan dan kementerian akan bersungguh-sungguh bagi memastikan pembinaan velodrom ini siap secepat mungkin, sebelum berlangsungnya Sukan Olimpik 2012 London.

"Saya akan memastikan projek ini menjadi yang paling penting dan mendapat kelulusan Unit Perancang Ekonomi (UPU) untuk dibentangkan pada Rancangan Malaysia Kesepuluh (RMK-10) hujung tahun ini," katanya pada sidang media selepas menerima kunjungan Presiden Kesatuan Berbasikal Antarabangsa (UCI), Patrick McQuaid di kementeriannya, semalam.

Jelasnya, velodrom tersebut perlu lengkap dengan semua kemudahan dan menepati undang-undang UCI dalam penganjuran kejohanan bertaraf dunia iaitu berbumbung serta menggunakan permukaan kayu.
"Jikalau boleh pembinaan velodrom ini mengikut spefikasi yang dikehendaki UCI, kita akan melihatnya dengan lebih mendalam dan konsultan yang terbaik akan dilantik dalam memberi nasihat untuk pembinaan velodrom ini.

"Bagaimanapun saya hendak menegaskan di sini pembinaan velodrom ini tidak semestinya di Lembah Klang, ini kerana bukan mudah untuk mendapat tapak yang sesuai di sini, mungkin di Negeri Sembilan" katanya.
Katanya, jika velodrom ini siap sebelum 2012, maknanya tidak ada masalah buat Malaysia untuk menganjurkan kejohanan bertaraf dunia sebelum Sukan Olimpik London, dalam masa yang sama melahirkan pelumba hebat dalam pelbagai acara.

Ditanya mengenai konsultan yang akan menjadi penasihat, Shabery berkata, setakat ini belum ada apa-apa keputusan mengenainya tetapi pakar perunding sudah tentu dari UCI sendiri yang berpengkalan di Switzerland.

"Kita tidak mahu pembinaan velodrom ini sebagai satu objek yang berorientasikan projek semata-mata tetapi kepentingan kegunaannya, tidak guna jika kita membina velodrom yang tidak menepati ciri-ciri yang dimahukan UCI," katanya.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
