KUALA LUMPUR: Six affiliates of the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) are seeking additional amendments to the constitution, which will increase the term of office for principal office bearers from two to three years.
The six are Pahang, Perak, Penang, Police, Sabah and Malacca. The MHF have fixed Sept 4 as the date for their extra-ordinary general meeting, which will seek to amend the constitution.
The MHF will be tabling a motion to amend the rules to allow for the appointment of the secretary and treasurer instead of being elected.
This amendment was mooted by the MHF president, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and agreed to by the council at their meeting last month.
The six affiliates have written to the MHF to include their motion in the agenda as well.
The MHF secretary, Hashim Mohamed Yusof, said yesterday that it was within the rights of the affiliates to make the request as only five affiliates are needed to call for an extra-ordinary general meeting.
Hashim added that the reason given by the affiliates in wanting a longer term for the office bearers was to allow them more time to complete their projects.
The MHF, who have a total of 15 affiliates, have also called for a council meeting on Sept 4 in the event that both motions are approved.
Hashim also said that a biennial general meeting would be held in November where elections were expected to be held.
