YOG tidak boleh dijadikan penanda aras kemampuan atlit

KEJAYAAN atau kegagalan kontinjen muda negara dalam saingan Olimpik Remaja (YOG) 2010 yang sedang berlangsung di Singapura, tidak boleh dijadikan penanda aras kemampuan sebenar atlit disebabkan syarat dan peraturan yang tidak selaras dengan kejohanan remaja antarabangsa lain.

Malah, ada yang menganggap Olimpik Remaja sebagai acara `syok sendiri negara republik itu kerana menampilkan banyak acara dan kategori sukan tidak berkualiti hingga menyaksikan kebanyakan persatuan sukan di negara ini tidak menghiraukan temasya berkenaan.

Pengarah Bahagian Atlit Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, berkata sasaran satu pingat sebenarnya sudah dicapai tetapi masih banyak isu yang boleh diperkatakan berhubung YOG serta persediaan negara.

Sebenarnya sukar menilai prestasi atlit negara dalam edisi sulung YOG kerana tiada penanda aras sebelumnya untuk perbandingan. Kejayaan satu pingat perak daripada Pandelela Rinong boleh dianggap tidak mengecewakan kerana sebenarnya sukan terjun masih baru buat kita.

Tetapi kekalahan kita dalam badminton serta kebangkitan Thailand menguasai perseorangan lelaki dan wanita perlu membangkitkan rasa gusar kerana Malaysia sebelum ini dianggap kuasa badminton.

Ia juga membuktikan program pelapis Thailand lebih baik daripada kita, katanya.

Shapawi berkata, Jawatankuasa Olimpik Antarabangsa (IOC) turut perlu memastikan aspek peraturan dan had umur penyertaan kejohanan ini selaras dengan kejohanan remaja antarabangsa lain serta mengangkat temasya itu menjadi platform untuk Olimpik sebenar.
Kita melihat kejohanan ini hanya membabitkan remaja Bawah 18 tahun, menyebabkan sukar bagi persatuan menyediakan atlit kerana perbezaan had umur kejohanan remaja lain, katanya.

Sementara itu, Setiausaha Kehormat Majlis Olimpik Malaysia, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi turut mengakui persatuan sukan negara ini tidak memberikan fokus terhadap YOG disebabkan banyak kekeliruan yang timbul terutama mengenai had umur, syarat kelayakan dan bilangan penyertaan atlit.

Perkara ini perlu diperhalusi IOC bagi memastikan Olimpik Remaja tidak dianggap sebagai kejohanan remeh, katanya.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
