KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Laptop computers, mobile phones and radio sets are among electrical items banned form New Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG) venues.
National Sports Council (MSN) director-general Datuk Zolkples Embong said bags, food, beverages, coins, flags, musical instruments and weapons are also prohibited.
"Malaysian athletes found for New Delhi have been briefed on the banned items and are requested to abide by regulations," he told reporters here Thursday.
On the withdrawal of Olympic champions Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Chris Hoy of Britain, Zolkples said as professionals, they were not bound to their respective countries.
However, it was a different case for Malaysian athletes who were financially supported by the government and thus had to abide by its decision.
He said Malaysia could not withdraw from CWG based on negative media reports from India as the athletes had been training for many years.
"We are not overlooking security and health issues in New Delhi and have prepared athletes for any eventuality," he added.
The Malaysian contingent comprising 203 athletes will compete in 14 sports at New Delhi CWG from Oct 3-14.
