KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- With the experience gained playing among top women professional golfers in the world at the just-concluded inaugural Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament, national amateur golfer Kelly Tan is all fired up to face the Asian Games in Guongzhou, China next month.
She finished in 32nd position with an overall score of three-over-par 216, a creditable performance indeed in view of the big names who competed.
"I learnt a lot from them (the pros) and they motivated me throughout. The experience will serve me well when I compete in the Asian Games next month," she told Bernama.
Asked if she would be turning professional soon, Kelly said: "Not for the time being. I plan to enrol in a college in the United States to upgrade my golfing skills first."
The three-day tournament which began on Friday and offered total prize money of US1.8 million (RM5.6 million) was won by Kang Jimin, a professional golfer from South Korea.
Kang fired a three-day total of nine-under-par 204 to clinch the title and took home the winner's purse of USD270,000 (RM840,000).
