CHENNAI, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Five-time world champion Datuk Nicol David will lead the World Cup squash mixed team event championship next month, where nine countries have confirmed participation.
After a lapse of 11 years, the Squash Racquets Federation of India (SRFI) will host the five-day event, beginning March 8, at the newly-built Express Avenue in Chennai.
"This is the revival of the world cup since the inaugural event was last held in Malaysia in 1996.
"World No 1 Nicol David, along with the top 10 players in the world will be participating," Major (Rtd) S. Maniam, the Chennai-based SRFI consultant coach told Bernama on Sunday.
Leading squash playing nations Australia, Egypt, England, France, India, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa and Sri Lanka would be taking part.
Maniam said the early rounds would be played at the Indian Squash Academy while the final matches would be held on an all-glass show court at the shopping mall.
A prize money of US$50,000 (RM150,000) is up for grabs at the biennial tournament.
