Satu emas Olimpik sudah cukup membanggakan

KUALA LUMPUR - Jangkauan empat pingat emas pada Olimpik 2012 merupakan motivasi terbaik buat atlet untuk beraksi cemerlang pada temasya sukan di London itu.

Setiausaha Kehormat Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM) Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, berkata, dengan meletakkan jangkauan empat emas, sudah pasti semua atlet negara yang layak ke kejohanan berprestij itu akan berusaha sehingga ke tahap maksimum untuk merealisasikan impian tersebut.

Walaupun Kok Chi mengakui 'jangkauan empat emas' sukar untuk dicapai, namun dengan motivasi sedemikian sekurang-kurangnya satu emas mampu diraih skuad negara.

"Sekali pun kita hanya meraih satu emas daripada empat emas yang dikatakan 'dalam jangkauan', ia amat baik kerana kita belum pernah memperoleh emas pada Sukan Olimpik.

"Namun mungkin kejutan dapat dilakukan oleh atlet kita pada kejohanan tersebut jika tidak masalah yang mengganggu tumpuan mereka,'' katanya ketika dihubungi Utusan Malaysia, semalam.

Sebelum ini, Menteri Kementerian Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek berkeras mempertahankan kenyataannya sebelum ini bahawa empat pingat emas dalam jangkauan atlet negara pada Olimpik 2012.

Sandaran diletakkan kepada pemain badminton No. 1 dunia, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, beregu Koo Kien Kiat-Tan Boon Heong, penerjun wanita, Pandelela Rinong dan jaguh berbasikal trek, Mohd. Azizulhasni Awang.

Sementara itu, Kok Chi berkata, empat atlet yang diletakkan sebagai sandaran itu diyakini mampu memberikan persembahan terbaik pada Olimpik tahun depan berikutan prestasi cemerlang yang dipamerkan sepanjang tahun lalu.

"Prestasi empat atlet ini berada pada tahap terbaik dan saya harap mereka dapat meneruskan kecemerlangan untuk menggalas tugas pada Sukan Olimpik.

"Peruntukan yang diberikan oleh kerajaan untuk Program Road to London 2012 mencukupi dan berjalan dengan baik.

"Jadi sudah tentu mereka ini berupaya menghadiahkan emas buat negara,'' jelas Kok Chi.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
