KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia was no match for the superior Thailand sepaktakraw team as they were smashed aside in the final of the inaugural International Sepaktakraw Federation (Istaf) World Cup at the Titiwangsa Stadium yesterday.
Malaysia had an easy semi-final bout earlier yesterday when they sent Singapore packing 3-0 while Thailand cruised past Myanmar 3-0 in another semi-final match.
In the much anticipated final match in front of a sellout crowd, Malaysia, however, failed to produce a respectable performance and went down tamely in straight sets of 4-15, 6-15, 11-15.
Thailand also ensured a clean sweep of the titles yesterday as their women’s team defeated Vietnam 3-0 in the final.
Malaysia lost 1-3 to Vietnam while Thailand beat China 3-0 in the semi-finals.
