Diving Contribute Third Medal Of The Games


SHENZHEN, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The women's diving squad contributed the country's third medal of the World University Games (Universiade 2011), a bronze medal, through the women's team event.

The women's diving team comprising Pandelela Rinong, Leong Men Yee, Ng Yan Yee and Cheong Jun Hoong picked up a total of 2,336.23 points from five events - 1M Springboard, 3M Springboard, 10M Platform, 3M Platform Synchronized and 10M Platform Synchronized - to finish third behind China and United States.

China swept the gold with 2,674.18 points, more than 300 points better than the United States who collected 2,373.03 points.

Malaysia won a silver through Pandelela from the women's individual 10m Platform and a bronze from Pandelela and Leong through the 10m Platform Synchronized diving.

Diving team manager Muhamad Mohd Hanif who was certainly pleased with the contribution from the divers said the silver and two bronze medals from diving had saved the blushes and image of the country.

"I hope they can continue the momentum for the next Universiade in 2013 at Kazan, Russia," he said.

Meanwhile, in today's women's 3m Platform Synchronized diving event which ended at the Shenzhen Natatorium today, Leong and Yan Yee failed to finish among the medal winners after accumulating 272.40 points.

The duo finished in fifth place while Chinese divers He Zi and Wang Han romped home with the gold after scoring 334.20 points while Ukraine took the silver through Fedorova Olena/Pysmenska Anna (301.50 points) and Alvarez Bianca/ Dragland Carrie from the United States finished third on (292.50 points).

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
