MUCH embarrassment will be avoided by the Malaysian Petanque Federation (MPF) when it meets the National Sports Council (NSC) to reinstate itself into the Sea Games contingent on Thursday.
The national team, who tallied two silver and a bronze medal in the Laos Sea Games two years ago, were on the verge of missing the boat to Jakarta for the 26th Sea Games on Nov 11-22.
This was because the MPF had failed to settle a number of outstanding bills accumulated during the team's stay in Laos and were initially banned from going to this year's Sea Games.
MPF secretary Shaari Samsudin, however, revealed that the federation had taken steps to settle all outstanding bills last week and will be seeking reinstatement to the Games contingent this week.
"We just overlooked it and were late in paying up. But we've settled the bills and we'll make sure the team go to the Sea Games," said Shaari.
"We'll be having a meeting to clear up matters with the National Sports Council (NSC) on Thursday and then with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) on Friday."
Shaari said the national team will comprise four men and four women, who have been preparing for the Sea Games since the beginning of the year.
"The team are already into their third phase of centralised training with the main target being this Sea Games. So, we will have to iron out all outstanding matters and ensure that the team get to compete."
