AZLAN Iskandar marched into the British Grand Prix second round but Ong Beng Hee fell by the wayside in the opening round in Manchester on Monday.
National champion Azlan saw off a late fightback by Egyptian qualifier Mohammed Abbas 11-4, 11-3, 12-10 to book a meeting with seventh seed Peter Barker of England today while Beng Hee almost pulled off a remarkable comeback only to fall short 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11, 11-8 against Egypt's Ali Anwar Reda.
"In the first two games, I had absolute clarity of what I needed to do on court," said Azlan. "He couldn't find his lengths but he went for it and really played well in the third.
"I was lucky to take the third, I had to really scramble and I thank God he tinned the last one."
