Jacqueline Clinches Gold Medal At WWC 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's young bowler Jacqueline Sijore claimed her maiden gold medal internationally after defeating Son Yun-hee of South Korea in the singles final of the 2011 World Women's Championship (WWC) in Hong Kong today.

The 19-year-old Sarawakian lass blazed the bowling alley to outclass her opponent 266-217 to capture the gold medal, according to the competition's official website.

Earlier in the semi-finals, she had defeated Singapore's Shayna Ng 246-214 to book her berth in the final while Yun-hee defeated Mai Ginge Jensen of Denmark 279-268.

Shayna and Mai Ginge were awarded the bronze medal.

Only four top bowlers in the combined standings from three squads marched to the semi-finals.

Prior to the semi-final and final, Malaysian bowlers Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi and Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani had bowled in the Squad 3 competition.

After completing their six-game competition, Zandra Aziela and Zatil Iman only managed to settle in fifth and 13th positions respectively.

After a combined result from the three squads, Jacqueline stood in fourth position while Zandra Aziela finished in 14th position, Zatil Iman (29th), Esther Cheah (46th), Sharon Koh (62nd) and Sin Li Jane (92nd) position out of 171 participants.
