BATU PAHAT: Champion System sprinter Anuar Manan (pic) went one step better in the race yesterday as he notched a third place finish in the third stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).
Although he bettered his fourth place finish from Saturday, Anuar still found himself behind Andrea Guardini (Farnese Vini) who took his second win yesterday.
Champion System principal Edward Beamon, said the team’s lead-out train are still perfecting their moves i and it would take some time before Anuar would get a perfect lead-out.
“This is the first time these guys have been in a race but compard to teams who have been together for three or four years, we were not that bad,” said Beamon.
“Anuar had to fend for himself in the final kilometre on Saturday because Chris (Butler) had fallen ill recently and is not in top form while Aaron (Kemps) just didn’t have the legs for it. But we will work hard for him to get a stage win especially here in LTdL.”
Commenting on his third place finish yesterday, Anuar said he was glad to have a better support from his team-mates close to the finish line as Jaan Kirsipuu launched him to the front.
“It was definitely a better performance from my team-mates today. But to get into a really good position at the front was very hard because they just don’t let you in.
“We tried hard to sit on Farnese’s wheels but they were others who also wanted to do the same as well. We spend a lot of energy just getting into a good position and in the end it wasn’t good enough,” said Anuar.
The Terengganu-born rider vows to give his best in his quest for a stage win today, as the undulating 169.4km race from Batu Pahat to Muar could end in another bunch sprint.
“I have faith in Anuar as he is very intelligent in finding a good position at the front,” said Beamon.
“If he could finish fourth when he was on his own in the last kilometre, imagine what will happen if he had full support right up to the finish line.”
