RARING: World No 1 keen to be in thick of action despite shoulder injury

WORLD No 1 Lee Chong Wei is raring to play for the Malaysian Tigers in the Axiata Cup despite a shoulder injury in Friday's semi-final first leg tie against Indonesia Garuda in Jakarta.

   Chong Wei's services are   needed following his team's unexpected defeat to Garuda, comprising Indonesia's back-up players, in a group match last weekend.

   Hafiz Hashim replaced Chong Wei in the first singles but the former All England champion    failed to make an   impact,  losing the first point to a lower-ranked Indonesian.

   Chong Wei is determined to play on Friday, provided he gets clearance from the BA of Malaysia (BAM).

   "I would like to play on Friday but it is not for me to decide," said Chong Wei at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara yesterday.

   "My condition is better as I've started training without feeling any pain in my shoulder."

   Chong Wei, however, fears that his shoulder could act up once again if he plays this weekend.

   "I cannot risk any injuries at this stage as the Olympics is nearing. If I aggravate my shoulder once again, my preparation for the Olympics would be affected.

   The two-time All England champion, however, is leaving it to BAM to decide whether he should play.

   Chong Wei took a short break from his schedule following the injury but resumed training last week.

   He was close to retaining his All England in Birmingham but was forced to retire at the start of the second game due to shoulder pains in the final against Lin Dan.

   Saturday - Kuala Lumpur: Indonesia Rajawali v Malaysian Leopards (noon)

   Second Leg (Sunday) Jakarta: Malaysian Leopards v Indonesia Rajawai (4.30pm)

   Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Tigers v Indonesia Garuda (8pm)

Govt Always Gives Emphasis To Sporting Culture, Says PM

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
