Rosman to take over Rexy's duties

ROSMAN Razak was the surprise choice to replace Rexy Mainaky as the national women's doubles and mixed doubles chief coach after the BA of Malaysia (BAM) coaching and training committee (CTC) didn't consider Pang Cheh Chang for the job.

Rosman, who also had a stint as the women's doubles coach several years ago, is currently one of the men's doubles coaches and will begin his new job on Tuesday.

CTC chairman Ng Chin Chai said Cheh Chang, who held the position before Rexy took over last September, was required to help men's doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and will continue assisting them until the Olympics in July.

"Rosman will be the women's doubles and mixed doubles chief coach until the end of the year. He will specifically guide the women's doubles while Jeremy Gan will continue coaching the mixed doubles," said Chin Chai yesterday.

"Chen Chang was shifted from the women's doubles to men's doubles to help out Kien Keat-Boon Heong and we want this to continue until the Olympics. Rosman has guided the women's doubles before and we believe he has the experience to assist the players.

"Jeremy's job is to focus on Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying for the Olympics where they have a chance of fighting for a medal."

The CTC also confirmed that the final phase of training for the Thomas Cup will be held on May 7-18 in Kuala Lumpur and Dongguan, China. The shuttlers will train at Juara Stadium beginning May 7 while their preparation in Dongguan, where they will train at the centre owned by China head coach Li Yongbo, will be on May 13-18 before leaving for Wuhan for the Thomas Cup Finals on May 20-27.

"It will help the players continue their final preparations in isolation and also adapt early to conditions before moving to Wuhan," said Chin Chai.

"The CTC has also deliberated on the Thomas Cup squad but the final decision will be made at the executive council meeting tomorrow (today)," he added.

The majority of the Thomas Cup squad has been confirmed with only the reserve slots for the singles and doubles to be finalised.

Lee Chong Wei, Hafiz Hashim, Liew Daren and doubles Kien Keat-Boon Heong and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah and Hoon Thien How have secured their places.

The singles reserve slot is a tussle between Chong Wei Feng and Arif Latif with the former having the edge, while the reserve slot for the doubles is still open with Teo Kok Siang, Tan Wee Kiong, Mak Hee Chun and Zakry Latif all in the running.

The CTC will allow five state-based players -- Tan Chee Tean, Goh Jian Hao, Amelia Anscelly, Choon Fie Choo and Chew Huay Han -- to attend a one-month trial with the national team next month. By K.M. Boopathy

Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach. "After listening to the recording of the post-match press conference, we decided to drop the charge against Rajagopal as he did not make such a statement. "Maybe his (Rajagobal) assessment and comments of the match was misconstrued by the media. There was no mention of the FAM policy throughout his comments," said Taufik after emerging from a three-hour Disciplinary Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here, Wednesday. Rajagobal who does not mince his words when asked to com...
