Malaysia Berpeluang Tambah Satu Slot Di Sukan Olimpik

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 Mei (Bernama) -- Skuad angkat berat negara berpeluang menambah satu slot dalam kategori lelaki pada Sukan Olimpik London Julai ini, jika salah seorang daripada dua peserta yang bertanding pada Kejohanan Angkat Berat Kelayakan Asia di Pyeongtaek, Korea Selatan bulan lepas gagal dalam ujian doping.

Presiden Persatuan Angkat Berat Malaysia (PABM) Zafarul Akhbar Kassim berkata beliau sedang menunggu keputusan ujian doping itu membabitkan atlet Uzbekistan dan Kazakhstan daripada Persekutuan Angkat Berat Dunia (IWF).

"Sekiranya salah seorang daripada mereka gagal dalam ujian tersebut, kita berpeluang cerah menghantar satu wakil lelaki ke Olimpik bagi menggantikan tempat salah seorang peserta itu," katanya kepada Bernama.

Zafarul berkata beliau juga akan berusaha mendapatkan satu tiket 'wildcard' daripada IWF sekiranya ujian doping tersebut membuktikan bahawa dua atlet terbabit tidak mengambil bahan terlarang.

Skuad angkat berat wanita negara telah melayakkan diri ke Sukan Olimpik selepas meraih tempat keenam keseluruhan pada kejohanan kelayakan tersebut.

Badan induk angkat berat negara baru-baru ini, telah mencalonkan dua atlet wanita kepada Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM) iaitu Azizah Fadzil dalam acara 53kg dan Nurniada Nordin dalam acara 48kg sebagai peserta simpanan ke Sukan Olimpik.

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed. FAM Disciplinary Committee chairman Datuk Taufik Abdul Razak said the committee had decided not to charge Rajagobal after carefully analysing the video of the post-match press conference by the 56-year-old coach.
