KUALA TERENGGANU, May 29 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Sports Council
(MSNT) is taking measures to popularise squash, badminton, swimming and
gymnastics to make the state the new sports superpower in the country,
MSNT director Zainal Abidin Hussin said today.
He said the MSNT was engaging the services of experienced coaches, including foreigners, to train and guide the athletes. Citing an example, he said the MSNT had engaged Azhar Gul, 31, of Pakistan to train the squash athletes.
"Azhar will also take charge of a long-term squash development programme in Terengganu," he said.
Zainal Abidin said Azhar has started off by training squash athletes for the 15th Malaysia Games (Sukma) to be held in Pahang in July.
The MSNT has listed four men and three women athletes to shoulder the Terengganu squash challenge at the games, he added.
