ESTHER Cheah was the only Malaysian to reach the women's stepladder finals at the Daejeon International Open in South Korea yesterday.

Fresh from winning the Hong Kong Open in June, Esther, a two-time world champion, finished joint fourth in the women's masters to become the only non-Korean to still be left in the fray.
Esther posted lines of 127, 177, 216, 215, 257, 183, 179, 209 and 279 for a grand total of 1,842 to finish joint fourth with Kong Hyun Jin.

Lee Na Young topped the standings with a 1,987 series, 93 pins ahead of second-placed Son Yun Hee, followed by Lee Yeon Ji on 1,884.
Team manager Cheah Ban Cheng said Esther did well to bounce back from a poor 127 in the opening game to qualify for the stepladder finals.

"The competition among the bowlers for the top five positions was close but Esther managed to clinch a spot after scoring 279 on her final game.
"She, however, will need to perform well if she hopes to finish on the podium," said Ban Cheng.

Ex-coach's jail sentence cut to a year

Rajagobal Let Off The Hook

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- National head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal was let off the hook by the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) Disciplinary Committee after finding no evidence that he had violated FAM's Article 88, as claimed.
