KUANTAN, July 17 (Bernama) -- Host Pahang's 45-gold medal feat in the
just concluded 15th Pahang SUKMA was the best ever achievement in SUKMA
history.
Pahang Sports Council director Datuk Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi said Pahang collected 45 gold, 40 silver and 38 bronze medals to finish third overall behind overall champion Terengganu and Selangor.
"When SUKMA was first held in 1986, Pahang managed only 1 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals from 127 events held, to finish 13th overall. For the first four games, Pahang's position has always been in the bottom half," he told Bernama here Tuesday.
The best previous achievement in terms of medal collection was a fourth place finish during the Kedah SUKMA when Pahang finished fourth overall with 39 gold, 36 silver and 32 bronze medals.
"As for overall position, Pahang had finished third when hosting the games in 1996 but collected only 37 gold, 42 silver and 44 bronze. So, this is definitely our best ever finish," he said.
