KUANTAN, July 15 (Bernama) - Federal Territory emerged overall
Malaysia Games (Sukma) badminton champions, thanks to rising star
Zulfadli Zulkifli.
Zulfadli won the gold medal by beating Tan Kian Meng of Johor, 21-14, 13-21, 21-7 in the men's singles final Sunday.
Tan won the silver medal while the bronze medal went to Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, also of Johor. Iskandar Zulkarnain beat Lim Yu Fu of Sabah, 21-16, 21-18 for the bronze.
"As I had expected, it was a tough match. Tan is a good player and has advantage in terms of height," Zulfadli told reporters at Pahang Indoor Stadium Sports Complex (Sukpa) here.
His focus after this is to improve the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking and to qualify for the All England Badminton Championships next year. Zulfadli is scheduled to participate in the Vietnam Open Championship from Aug 21-26.
Federal Territory won three gold and one silver followed by Selangor with two gold and two bronze and Melaka with one gold and one bronze.
