KUANTAN, July 15 (Bernama) -- Terengganu swept both the men's and
women's hockey gold medals by edging favourite Federal Territories in
both categories at the Wisma Belia Hockey stadium here Sunday.
In the men's event, Terengganu edged Federal Territories 4-3 after a penalty shootout with Muhamad Zahirul Faiz Asha'ri emerging as his team's hero when he scored the deciding winning flick.
The men's hockey gold was the first for the Terengganu side that had only reached the final back in 1996, incidentally in Kuantan, when Pahang hosted the SUKMA.
Just like the men's final, the women's final was also a closely fought affair which Terengganu eventually won by a solitary goal from Rashidah Mahmad in the 18th minute.
