KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Beleaguered Malaysian Athletics
Union (MAU) deputy president Datuk Karim Ibrahim will defend his post
amid calls for him to step down following doping allegations against
him.
Karim, who has been holding the post since 2006, is adamant despite a petition signed by 16 coaches and 42 athletes in February, urging him to relinquish his post.
"I have grown accustomed to the theatrics of athletic association politics. However, this does not dampen my spirit.
"I am not desperate to contest the post, but I will only do so if I received nominations from state associations," Karim told Bernama.
The MAU has set up an anti-doping investigation committee headed by former Court of Appeal judge Tan Sri V.C. George to investigate a doping issue involving seven athletes linked to Karim.
